What is Eucalyptus?

Eucalyptus is a large genus of flowering trees that includes more than 700 different species, most of which are found in New Zealand and Australia. Some common species of eucalyptus are also abundant in Southeast Asia. Different species of eucalyptus are very different in size. However, all species have leaves that are covered with oil glands. Most of the properties of eucalyptus also originate from these oil glands. Among the various species of eucalyptus, “Eucalyptus globules” is the main source of eucalyptus oil in the world.

Eucalyptus has also spread to many tropical regions due to its benefits. Nevertheless, it is still a major export to the Pacific. Eucalyptus has been used in Chinese, Indian, Greek and other European medicine for thousands of years to treat many ailments. After evaporation and distillation of eucalyptus leaves, an oil is obtained. This colorless liquid oil has a woody, sweet and strong scent. Eucalyptus oil contains a chemical compound called “eucalyptol”.
